10/26 -- GOOD

10/21: "The October Caddis hatches have been great! They can happen as early as 4:00 PM or as late as 5:30 PM. Swinging October Caddis nymphs through the riffles and tail-outs works great! Rainbows can be found chasing, leaping after ovipositing caddis. Mid day fishing is best with Birds Nests, Eng Things, Black A.P. and brown or black Rubber Legs."  10/21: "Fishing continues to be great this week. Nothing new to reports other than rain and cloudy weather may produce hatches of baetis/BWOs. Bring a few #16-18 mayfly nymphs this week.  Definitely a good October Caddis hatch this year. These bugs put the rainbows near the edges of the river where they look for emerging adults. The fishing has been good all day and a few fish are always found eating near the surface at sunset. The fishing has been good!"

10/19 -- GOOD

10/14: "Definitely a good October Caddis hatch this year. These bugs put the rainbows near the edges of the river where they look for emerging adults. The fishing has been good all day and a few fish are always found eating near the surface at sunset. The fishing has been good!"

10/12 -- GOOD

"Fishing is good. Good reports of anglers hooking big trout on Isonychia nymphs in pools and tailouts. Fish the nymph in tailouts and be sure to swing the flies at the end of the drift. On the Pit 3 section, use tungsten beadhead stoneflies and heavy split shot to get the flies down in fast moving pocket water. Some caddis, PMD’s and yellow sallies hatching below Pit #4 and 5 when the sun is off the water in the afternoon. Look for better midday hatches of BWO’s with some winter weather."  " October never disappoints on the Pit River. The rainbows almost always key on bigger meals thanks to October Caddis pupa moving around on the bottom of the river. Fishing should remain great all week! Next week too!"

9/28 -- VERY GOOD

"Well, it's back to business on the Pit. There are no closures limiting your access to the Pit. The Pit up near Lake Britton (Pit #3) is fishing great. Good reports coming out of Pit #4 too! Good fishing is what the Pit is all about! Insect hatches to be prepared for include Isonychia, #16 tan cddis, #16 black caddis. You might find a few Pale Evening Duns (PEDs) coming off near sunset too."  "We have enjoyed our best days of the season on the ...Pit this week as the midday bite has picked up along with some October Caddis beginning to pop."

9/21 -- VERY GOOD

"The Pit up near Lake Britton (Pit #3) is fishing great. Good reports coming out of Pit #4 too! No news on road closures near the Pit, but we are hearing rumors that access roads into some of the remote sections could be open by the end of September. Stay tuned!"

9/14 -- GOOD

From 9/8: "You will find good fishing on the Pit river this week and next week. Our guides have been reporting in with "Big Fish" looks on their faces. September rarely disappoints anglers on the Pit thanks to hatches of Isonychia (looks like a small black stonefly, about a #8 or #10). There's a sparse caddis hatch mid day that gets the fish going. Pit#3 near Lake Britton dam is a long, long way from the Bagley fire and a solid option for fishing anyday of the week."

8/31 -- VERY GOOD

"The new flow standard is keeping water cool and fish active. Best success is subsurface with a golden stone and a tungsten beadhead nymph to get flies down in heavy pocket water. Hatches are sparse but trout can be enticed to rise with a good dead-drift. No reports of Isonychia but this is typically the time."  "The Pit River has been outstanding but due to the Bagley Fire, we have not visited in the past week."

8/24 -- FAIR

"it was a day that we had to work a little harder for our fish. Landing them in some spots was nearly impossible but the boys got it done."   From Kiene's: "There is a large boulder on the road into Deep Creek Camp. Flows on Pit 4 and Pit 5 are high now. Pit 3 and above have lower flows and should be good."

8/16 -- GOOD

"The good fishing is early and late in the day with a break in the afternoon. Indicator nymph with small black stone and a dark lord or prince dropper in the fast pocket water on Pit 3. "Isonychia is the insect that starts to move around on the Pit during late summer."

8/3 -- VERY GOOD

"The Pit is fishing great! Water conditions are excellent! Isonychia will start to get active any day. I fished Pit#4, #5 and #7 toady. The fishing was outstanding. Numbers of rainbow trout went well into the double digits! Saw one fish that might have been 25″ long."

7/26 -- GOOD

Same report as last week: "Fishing has been very good lately with good hatches, but the wading here is tough so come prepared."

7/20 -- GOOD

"Fishing has been very good lately with good hatches, but the wading here is tough."

7/6 -- GOOD

"Over the past week, the Pit has delivered good report after good report. There is a an abundance of good water on the Pit from Lake Britton Dam all the way down to Big Bend and beyond! Plan on wet wading and casting nymphs about 10 feet out into the pockets, riffles, glides."

6/21 -- GOOD

No new reports.  Pit River Camping discussion on Kiene's.

6/15 -- VERY GOOD

"The fishing has been great. Good hatches of Golden Stones, Salmon flies, Caddis in the early evening and mayflies off and on all day. And the Yellow Sallies are out!"

6/9 -- VERY GOOD

"The fishing has been on fire this week. Good dry fly fishing mid day and excellent nymphing. Stoneflies and Salmon flies are on the job and rainbows are big, fat healthy. Bring a few Yellow Sally dries!"  See Kiene's discussion on Pit River Camping.

6/1 -- VERY GOOD

"The Pit River is fishing great. Stonefly hatches and Salmon flies top off insect hatches of Caddis and a few Mayflies like BWOs."
