"Good for me, I like the high flows, bad for the majority of anglers coming up for the holiday weekend to fish. Your best bet is to fish the river above the inlet of the Little Truckee. Pmds are now on the scene here in Cali, and the other bugs will arrive here shortly, caddis, drakes and goldens." "Above the Boca outflow flows are in great shape with just a little flow coming out of the Prosser drainage. Here you will find hatches of BWO’s and Midges in the morning, PMD’s and sporadic March Brown activity, and finally lots of Caddis throughout the day and into the evening."
"I have been spending most of my time fishing the Cali side, and fishing is very good. March browns are winding down and hatches are sparse. I thought the carpenter ants would go off, but it really hasn’t happened. Next up are caddis, green drakes, and pmds. I think we should see caddis in about 10 days if it stays warm, green drakes just after that, and pmds shortly. This will all happen a bit sooner in Nevada."
"Fishing is good in both states on the Truckee River. Trout have spread out and are just about everywhere in the river." "They’re here, our big winged carpenter ants of spring." Carpenter ant discussion on Kiene's. "The Truckee is in great shape for the middle of Run-Off season. The Yo-Yo effect the run-off has on the river this time of year has not been too bad." "Still a little chilly for risers. But very soon.... March brown nymphs size 14-16 are popping."
"Flows are high and clear, prefect for nymphing or streamers. Haven't seen too many fish on the surface even though there is a mid-day hatch of BWO's." "It appears we are over the hump, the melt has peaked. Provided it doesn't get too warm."
Flows peaked at 2,000 CFS Thursday (vs 700 avg). "If you know how to fish in high flows, then you’ll do good, if not wait a few weeks."

"Flows are perfect right now and the weekend looks great. The Big Truckee has been great for dries and nymphs with the Glenshire stretch being the most consistent." Run-off may come in a few weeks.

"The Truckee River is in perfect shape, despite the storms this week. The winds though have been a bummer. My hands and face feel like an old saddle. The fishing is good. In Nevada, I’d rate it, four IPAs out of five...In Cali, I’d give it two IPAs out of five." See Kiene's discussion.

Relatively dry, compared to west slope, but windy. "After these stroms roll out, it should be business as usual. We’re coming into a good time of the year, Spring, to catch big fish through out the entire Truckee River system, California and Nevada. Skwalas will be in the air, march browns, and blue wings."

"If it stays warm this week, which is forecasted, things should pop on the Truckee River. Blue wings are out in full force on the Nevada side, along with a few skwala stones. Shouldn’t be to long for the Cali side starts fishing well either, just a few weeks".
