10/26 -- GOOD

"The Trinity river is kicking out decent numbers of both steelies and mostly dark salmon. Guide Steve Huber reports "it's still a grind" but if anyone knows how to grind it's Steve. His best day of the past week was on Monday 10-22 when they hooked a combined 21 salmon and steelhead landing 9. Steve says that overall it's a couple of salmon and a couple of steelhead per stick."  "Steelhead fishing has been best near Junction City. However, keep in mind steelhead are moving towards the hatchery in Lewiston. Might be a good idea to try some of the water above Douglas City. River conditions are excellent. You will find there are many, many salmon in the river! Egg patterns may be your best fly! Expect crowded conditions."

10/19 -- FAIR

10/14: "River conditions are perfect and the fishing has been good for some, slow for others. By all accounts, it looks like we are headed for an amazing season on the Trinity this Autumn and Winter."  "Willow Creek — Some nice steelhead are being caught around Willow Creek, according to Ed Duggan of “D” Guide Service. One of his clients caught — and released — a giant 14-pound native buck steelhead on a plug in a run from Salyer to Willow Creek.  Junction City —Not too many steelhead are being caught yet. Smolts are still present, but their numbers are declining, too."  "a few trout/steelhead are being caught “here and there,” while fishing for salmon, but very few anglers are targeting them yet."

10/12 -- GOOD

"Fishing is fair to good.  Steelhead are moving through the river system. A few reports of chrome adult steelhead up to Junction City with more on their way. Bulk of the steelhead are moving through Deloma. Swinging flies on a sink tip in runs and tailouts are finding chrome steelhead up to 10 pounds below Junction City. Fish the edges and behind salmon with a rubberleg stone with an egg dropper. Looking like a good season on the Trinity."  "I’m not going to say the “Trinity is fishing great”, or “you need to come now”. What I will say is you have from right now through March to find steelhead in this river, and cast your fly right at’em! The fishing has been excellent and it’s only going to get better."   Read on Kiene's about camping options -- and also about overnight float."

9/28 -- GOOD

"Currently, flows are 450 cfs this week. Perfect. No scheduled changes at this time. We have been receiving improved steelhead reports in recent days, but nothing "amazing". If you want to, you could go right now and have a decent chance at finding a chromer or a nice brown trout. It's early. It's possible that great reports will start as early as mid October? Maybe? Maybe this week. Steelhead are in!"  "A few of us steelhead diehards have been unwilling to wait and have been rewarded with some early season adult fish along with numerous juveniles and half-pounders, the best fishing we have seen this soon in the season in a very long time. On the Klamath and Lower Sacramento River and Trinity our best catches have come on nymphs while on the Trinity those dedicated to the swing have found an occasional adult fish."  From Kiene's: "Just had a good report from the middle Trinity."

9/21 -- FAIR

"More and more steelhead are showing too. Flows are dropping back to 450 cubic feet per second this week." 9/15: "Some anglers are finding chrome, but most are not. We expect to find better steelhead conditions in the weeks to come."  See the live cam action on the Trinity (which doesn't seem to be working at the moment).

9/14 -- POOR

"Flows are 900 cfs with no scheduled changes at this time. These are elevated flows compared to a typical 450 cfs flow in September. There are huge numbers of Salmon on the move as we write, but you may be wondering how the Steelhead fishing is? Well, it's just a little early. We expect to find better steelhead conditions once the river drops down to sub 450 cfs flows. Look for a better steelhead report come mid October."

9/7 -- FAIR

"Lots of king salmon in the Trinity right now and more coming. Flows are over 800 CFS, too high to wade comfortably. The steelhead are on the way! I’d say green light by October or maybe even next week."

8/31 -- FAIR

"fishing well for salmon but steelhead are still moving through the system. Reports of some big chromers around Willow Creek. Flows are currently increasing which will pull fish up the river system."

8/24 -- FAIR

No new reports.  Flows steady at 1000 CFS at Lewiston.

8/16 -- FAIR

"The Trinity has been fishing great for Salmon! Yes! You can find these big' ol fish on a fly rod over the next few weeks at least! Highly recommended! Can you find brown trout and small to medium sized steelhead? Does a monkey eat bananas?"  Flows up to 1050 CFS (From 500 a few days ago).  8/13 (before flow increase): "Trinity River (near Lewiston) Flows are down to 450 cfs in Lewiston. Good numbers of trout feeding on caddis in the afternoon. Good numbers of salmon in the river with a few early steelhead starting to show below the south fork."

8/3 -- GOOD

"Conditions are great for wading or floating down river in your drift-boat or raft. Fishing has been great on the Trinity! Good reports of big brown trout, small to medium sized steelhead and big 'ol King Salmon are in the daily chatter heard around the fly bins at The Fly Shop! You should fish here!"

7/26 -- FAIR

"Past few weeks flows have dropped below 1600cfs and those not weaned on minimum flows and willing to accept the high water challenge have been scoring. Flows are slowly dropping 90cfs a day (currently 800cfs) bottoming out to 450cfs July 26. Streamer fishing is solid, evening hatches are predictable and the lead edge of our springer’s have arrived."    Flows have dropped from 750 to 460 CFS over the last week.

7/20 -- FAIR

No trout or steelhead reports.  Flows have dropped from 1150 to 750 CFS over the last week.

7/13 -- FAIR

Lewiston are: "Flows are coming down to 450 cfs by July 26th where they will remain through the fall. Steelhead are starting to show in the lower sections of the river. Due to the current fires in the area, fishing is not recommended. Unhealthy air quality and poor visibility is keeping anglers off the river. Look for fishing and air quality to improve with the first rain of the season."  "Flows are coming down slowly and the fishing has been fun. Come on down and catch a brown trout!!"  P.S. Salmon are showing.

7/6 -- FAIR

Read Kiene discussion on first springers.  Plus, from the Fly Shop: "The fishing has been fun this week. The summer fishing on the Trinity consists of juvenile steelhead (10-14") and brown trout. Anglers searching the slower, slack water find the big browns this summer fishery is known for! Bring small #14-18 caddis nymphs, stonefly patterns and mayfly nymphs. There is some dry fly fishing near sunset for rainbows and browns chasing emerging caddis."

6/29 -- FAIR

"Conditions are "good to go". Swinging flies for rainbows and browns is what's happening on the Trinity River. Bring a few orange stimulators and drop #16 red copper johns. Enjoy.  Flows will gradually decrease to 1,770 CFS on Saturday June 30th."

6/21 -- FAIR

Nothing new.  Flows still dropping -- over 500 CFS in the last week.

6/15 -- FAIR

"The river flows of the Trinity River are coming down slowly. Better reports have surfaced this week with some very nice brown trout being caught. Don't expect to catch a lot of fish on the Trinity until the river flows drop down below 1000 CFS."

6/9 -- FAIR

"Flows are high on the Trinity River! Heard a great report this week of some big bad browns taken on swung buggers. Other than that, everybody is waiting until August when flows will be wade friendly."

6/1 -- POOR

"Nothing to report for now. Flows are high and the fishing isn't great for now."
