Above bridge: nymphs plus wet and dry attractors. Streamers below the bridge. Controlled flows in gorge = best bet. 40% chance of monsoonal rain wednesday and wednesday night. Check before leaving.

7/1 -- VERY GOOD
Gorge best (stable 45 CFS). Big attractor dries, small nymphs. Lower river settling down (dropping to 280 CFS). Nymphs,dries, streamers.

Gorge is best with steady 45 CFS -- use dries or nymphs. Elsewhere use streamers and nymphs, but call ahead regarding snowmelt. Stale report, so downgrading a notch.

6/24 -- GOOD
Gorge is best, with its 45 CFS stable and regulated flows. Deer hair: yellow humpies, stimulators; plus small mayfly nymphs. Lower river lowering to 352 CFS; seek out slower water. Upper river is worst. Average for the river: good.

Murky and 350 CFS due to snowmelt, therefore streamers. Exception: gorge is immune to runoff issues as it is flow-protected at 40 CFS ("This is a permanent flow required to be maintained by LADWP" according to http://www.thetroutfly.com/fishreport.html). Gorge: small flies, say stimulator and pt or midge dropper. Reports not clear on the actual quality of fishing.

In descending order of quality: gorge is best at 45 CFS (attractor dries, small nymphs). Lower river 346 CFS (yellow sallies, caddis, others). Upper river -- tough to fish at 144 CFS. Weighted average = good.

Warmer, less wind. Flows semi-high. Runoff fast approaching. Best in gorge (adams, bwo, humpy, stimulator, nymphs). Then below bridge (streamers).

Conflicting reports. Water is high on the Owens, but Brocks claims good action midday in wild trout section on BWO's and midges; also good on streamers in lower section; tougher in the gorge with colder water and slower fish

OWENS RIVER GORGE

Water conditions: Great

Flow: 45 CFS. This is a permanent flow required to be maintained by LADWP

Water is clear and cold.

Fishing Conditions and Hatches:Excellent

No stinging nettles yet and fishng has been great. Good place to beat the crowds. 20F hotter than Hot Creek or Upper O on cooler days.

Take water along as it is hot these days.

Recommended Flies:

DRIES: #18-#20s Tricos- spinners/emergers #18-#22s.

NYMPHS: poxy back baetis, wd-40s, kyles super flash p/t, beerhead baetis, Two Bit Hookers

STREAMERS: Wooley buggers and leeches(small)

Guides Hint: Stay subsurface with May Fly nymphs for maximum tonnage on deck.


4/30 -- GOOD

UPPER OWENS

Water Conditions:

As of 4/26 flows are steady at 70 cfs above the Hot Creek confluence.

'Stll cold water but nice and clear so get those nymphs and streamers down to where the fish are.




Fishing Conditions and Hatches:

Good to Excellent

Fish are getting more active with each day.

Dry action is excellent with good hatches midday.

Nymphing, streamers, midges early and baetis midday.


Recommended Flies:

DRIES:
Western Coachmen #18, Parachute Adams #20,
EXT Body BWO #20

NYMPHS: BH Copper John #18, BH Prince Nymph #18, Flossy Worm Red, Flashback Hares Ear #18, Bird's Nest Olive #18, Black WD 40 #20
STREAMERS: Big black and olive wooly buggers. Try with Nymph trailer. GET DOWN!


4/29 -- POOR

LOWER OWENS RIVER

Water Conditions:

Flows are still raging at 551 cfs as of 4/26. Wading not recommended.

Watch out for crumbling bank.

Water is warming fast.

Fishing Conditions and Hatches:

Fair to poor

Try to find area's of slower moving water, and stay subsurface until the flows subside.

Also try more towards Big Pine as river is wider with no banks.

Recommended Flies:

NYMPH: Gray/black Optimidge #18, #20 Flashy Black WD40, #16 #18 Brassie, #16 Red Copper Johns, #16 PT's and Flashback Hare's Ear's, #18 Tungsten Psycho

DRIES: #16-#18 BWO Comparaduns and #16 Parachute Adams, Kauffmans Stimis, #18 Hatch Matcher PMD , Extended Body BWO, EC Caddis
